Our Programs

Building Dignity, Opportunity, and Resilience Across Afghanistan

AFZENDA designs and implements community-based programs that expand access to education, strengthen livelihoods, and promote social inclusion for women, girls, children with disabilities, and other marginalized communities in Afghanistan.

Our programs are rooted in the belief that sustainable change begins with inclusive opportunities, local ownership, and practical support that responds to the realities families face every day. Through education, skills development, rehabilitation support, and community empowerment, AFZENDA works to help vulnerable individuals and households move toward greater self-reliance, protection, and hope.

1. Inclusive Education

Education is central to AFZENDA’s mission. We work to expand access to safe, inclusive, and meaningful learning opportunities for children and young people, particularly those who face barriers due to poverty, gender, disability, or social exclusion.

Our education programming focuses on:

  • Expanding access to quality learning opportunities for girls and marginalized children

  • Supporting children with disabilities through inclusive and community-based approaches

  • Strengthening foundational learning, life skills, and future pathways

  • Promoting safe and supportive learning environments

  • Encouraging community engagement in education and child development

AFZENDA believes that education is not only a basic right, but also a foundation for long-term social and economic progress.

2. Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods

AFZENDA supports women to develop the skills, confidence, and economic opportunities needed to build dignified and independent lives. Our women’s empowerment programming is designed for those facing severe barriers to opportunity, including widows, women-headed households, women with disabilities, and returnee women.

Our interventions include:

  • Vocational skills training, including tailoring, handicrafts, and other market-relevant trades

  • Business development and entrepreneurship support

  • Market linkage and income-generation initiatives

  • Livelihood startup assistance through tools, kits, and practical resources

  • Confidence-building and social empowerment activities

Through initiatives such as vocational training and production support, AFZENDA helps women move from vulnerability toward self-reliance, resilience, and stronger participation in family and community life.

3. Disability Inclusion and Rehabilitation Support

AFZENDA is committed to ensuring that children and adults with disabilities are not left behind. Drawing on longstanding experience in disability-related work, AFZENDA promotes inclusion, dignity, and access to supportive services for individuals with disabilities and their families.

This area of work includes:

  • Community-based support for children with disabilities

  • Promotion of inclusive access to education and services

  • Family-centered support and awareness

  • Rehabilitation-oriented approaches that strengthen wellbeing and daily functioning

  • Advocacy for the inclusion and protection of people with disabilities

AFZENDA works to create pathways where disability is not a barrier to learning, participation, or opportunity.

4. Community Development and Social Protection

AFZENDA works closely with communities to identify needs, strengthen local participation, and deliver interventions that protect vulnerable families and support long-term resilience.

Our community-based approach includes:

  • Needs assessments and community consultation

  • Identification and support of vulnerable households

  • Coordination with local stakeholders and community representatives

  • Awareness-raising on social inclusion, protection, and community wellbeing

  • Strengthening local ownership and trust in program delivery

By working through community structures and engaging local voices, AFZENDA helps ensure that programs are relevant, accepted, and sustainable.

5. Youth Skills and Future Leadership

AFZENDA believes that young people are critical to Afghanistan’s future. We support youth through learning, skills development, and opportunities that help them contribute positively to their communities.

This area may include:

  • Skills-building and practical learning opportunities

  • Personal development and motivation

  • Civic awareness and community engagement

  • Support for youth participation in positive social change

  • Pathways to leadership, service, and self-reliance

Our aim is to help young people develop the confidence, values, and capacities needed to become future leaders in their communities.

6. Humanitarian and Recovery Support

Where communities face acute hardship, AFZENDA seeks to respond with practical, community-based support that protects dignity and strengthens coping capacity. Our approach is guided by humanitarian principles and focused on reaching those most at risk.

Depending on need and resources, this may include:

  • Support to vulnerable households affected by poverty and crisis

  • Basic assistance linked to protection and dignity

  • Recovery-oriented support that helps families regain stability

  • Referral and coordination with relevant service providers and stakeholders

AFZENDA’s humanitarian work is grounded in compassion, accountability, and a commitment to do no harm.
