About Us

Afghan Zamin Education and Development Assistance (AFZENDA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established on October 15, 2007, by Mary MacMakin. AFZENDA is registered as a national NGO with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan and as a 501©(3) non-profit organization in the United States under the name AFGHANISTAN ZENDABAD.

AFZENDA was founded with the vision of supporting marginalized communities through inclusive education and sustainable development. The organization works with women, girls, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable families to create opportunities for self-reliance, dignity, and social inclusion. AFZENDA operates in alignment with international humanitarian principles, including accountability, transparency, and a commitment to “Do No Harm”. development for all, particularly marginalized communities.
